Slavery case. Taney, attorney for the defense presents a dispute over the sale of a slave at public auction who was later said to be "the worst purchase ... that he was an idle lazy worthless fellow - would often have his face tied up & say he had a tooth ache, which this defendant believed was more affected than real, & that this defendant would not give two and six pence for him ... " Taney, in his later capacity as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, offered the majority decision in the famous Dred Scott Case.
